Boy Scouts to Honor Jose Feliciano, Westport Leaders

WESTPORT, Conn. – Grammy Award-winning singer Jose Feliciano, a Weston resident best known for the Christmas song “Feliz Navidad,” is among four community leaders from Westport and Weston who will be honored by Boy Scouts of America.

Westport residents John Branson, rector of Christ & Holy Trinity Church; Santa Energy Executive Tom Santa; and Alan Stolz, a 68-year veteran Scouter, will also be honored during the Commitment to Community Distinguished Citizen Awards reception April 29. The ceremony will be held at Continental Manor in Norwalk.

These honorees were selected by a committee of volunteers for their involvement in various community service organizations, as well as for their “esteemed” reputations, Tony Vogl of the Boy Scouts of America Connecticut Yankee Council, said in a statement.

Eagle Scouts from four local troops — Troop 36, Troop 39, Troop 100 and Troop 788 — will also be honored at the event. Student honorees were nominated by their troops for their outstanding leadership, community service and good character.

During the awards ceremony, Feliciano will perform a special program for guests. Members of the Westport and Weston communities are invited to attend. Tickets are $150 per person and include dinner. Proceeds support the Connecticut Yankee Council, which includes more than 300 Scouts from Westport and Weston.

Donations or sponsorships in any amount are accepted. Checks should be made payable to Connecticut Yankee Council and sent to its offices at 60 Wellington Road, Milford, CT 06460.
