Weston mom Jennifer Siegel and her son, Murray, took advantage of the sunshine and spring-like weather Thursday afternoon by taking a trip to Westport's Compo Beach. "There's still too much snow in our neighborhood to walk around so we decided to come here," Jennifer said, adding she has family in Westport. "It's so nice today, we even had the sunroof open on the way here."
The beach is not only a perfect place to bask in the sun, it's also a sensory wonderland for 21-month-old Murray. And of all the things to touch, see and hear, Murray was most captivated by the dogs roaming around. Dozens of dog owners and their four-legged companions were taking advantage of the weather, to Murray's delight.
"We don't have a dog," Jennifer said as a Golden Retriever wondered over to them. "But [Murray] loves watching them run around."
Staples High School senior Aidan Orly was among the many dog owners at Compo on Thursday. He and friend Courtney Chow, also a senior at Staples, took advantage of the unseasonable weather by taking Lamb Chop, Aidan's Bichon Frise, for a walk.
Not knowing how long the warm weather will last, Aidan and Courtney said they plan to spend more time outside. Jennifer said she, too, plans to do more outdoor activities with Murray as long as the weather stays warm.
"Instead of going to the aquarium, we'll come here or go to a park," she said. "Even just driving around more anything to get out."
Westport boyfriend-and-girlfriend pair Jason Morris and Jessica Allen, who took the opportunity to jog along Compo, said they are "thrilled" with the weather. As joggers, they said they run whenever they can but prefer warmer weather.
"This [weather] has been such a treat. But the reality is, it's still February and we're not in the clear yet," Jessica said. "I'm hopeful, though, that the worst is past us."
