Youll be blown away by Battle: Los Angeles. Aaron Eckhart, whose credits include The Dark Knight and Thank You For Smoking, plays a Marine named Michael Nantz who has just retired when Los Angeles is attacked by aliens.
He is sent right to the heart of the battle with troops who dont trust him and dont respect him because of his bad reputation. But they have to work together to kill all the extraterrestrials and destroy all their aircraft. The whole movie is about this group of Marines and their struggle to stop the aliens while also trying to survive. But not everyone makes it.
After the opening scene, the entire film takes place in battle. There are very few scenes that dont involve fighting. Believe it or not, it actually gets exhausting. By the end of the movie, you feel drained.
The audience was laughing, crying, and applauding throughout the whole film. The characters and their development are more of a focus than the plot.
In my opinion, boys are more likely to enjoy this movie than girls are -- unless youre a girl that doesnt mind violence and disturbing images. I also think this could be very frightening for little kids who havent been exposed to violence.
Overall, this movie was very well done. The camera is mostly handheld, which adds to the urgency of the scenes. The actors were believable and even moving -- including the young children. However, the dialogue was corny at times. There were many cliches included. But to someone like me, this made it more heartfelt.
I give Battle: Los Angeles an 8 out of 10 for its compelling story and its ability to make you feel like youre right there with the Marines.
