The novel follows a community of women in Saugatuck who have survived an alien invasion.

Many of Westport’s familiar landmarks are featured in the book, such as the Saugatuck Rowing Club, Longshore, Cockenoe Island and the Post Road.

The novel has just been published by Aqueduct Press, a science fiction publishing house based in Seattle.

"Flesh & Wires" raises questions about community, colonialism, immigration and basic human rights, not to mention the limits of sisterhood. It also challenges our assumptions about the ties and obligations of family, community and society in a crisis situation.

Hatton was born in Australia. She grew up n Hobart, Tasmania, and graduated from Melbourne University.

She left Australia 25 years ago.

She completed her doctorate in American women’s history at Cornell University.

Hatton is currently working on her second novel, a near-future thriller set in Amsterdam. She has lived in a number of different places, including Westport and, for the last ten years, Amsterdam. She is married without children, and her favorite thing to do is swim in beautiful water.
