Easton residents with a yen for art, books and nature should be happy to hear that James Prosek is coming to the Easton Public Library on Saturday, Feb. 12, as part of a library lecture series called "Conversations with..."
Prosek, an Easton resident, is best known for his book "Trout: An Illustrated History." He is also a renowned visual artist. "What sets Prosek's work apart though, is his desire to remove his subject matter from its native environment," says the New Canaan Library's website. "Rather than painting fish in their natural habitat, Prosek presents his images in utter isolation thus enabling him to render the beauty of the forms and the diversity of the shapes and colors."
An avid fly-fisherman, Prosek earned a Peabody Award in 2003 for a documentary about his journey across England in the footsteps of Izaak Walton, the 17th-century author of "The Compleat Angler."
He also writes occasionally for The New York Times and National Geographic. His most recent book is titled "Eels: An Exploration, from New Zealand to the Sargasso, of the World's Most Amazing and Mysterious Fish." He has also published a children's book called "A Good Day's Fishing."
The Easton Library's speaker series began in January with illustrator Randall Enos. Prosek will be the second guest in the series, which features notable Easton residents who share their stories. Prosek will be at the library from 3 to 5 p.m. For more information, contact the library at 203-261-0134.
