In honor of Gault Energy & Stone's 150th Anniversary Celebration, the group is giving out a $1,500 scholarship and a tour of New York City's Bank of America Tower, an environmentally responsible high-rise office, according to a news release.

The group is asking teens to submit essays in its competition called “What’s Next? Energy Solutions for the Next 150 Years” that will will run through Oct. 29, with the winner to be announced in early November, according to the release.

Sam Gault, the fifth generation to head the company, said in the release that he believes that today’s teens will be "responsible for a sea change in energy consumption behaviors, and will be among the early adopters of renewable energy resources," according to the release.

“I fully expect that today’s teens will be turning to solar, wind and other renewable energy sources by the time they are raising their own kids,” said Gault in the release. “As the state’s oldest family-owned and - operated energy provider, we’re excited to hear their visions of the future when it comes to powering our homes, businesses and cars. Their future will be our company’s future.”

The entry form is available on Gault Energy & Stone’s 150th Anniversary website. Essays should be no longer than 500 words and as part of their research, teens are encouraged to visit The Westport Library exhibit “Canary in the Coal Mine: The Plight of the Polar Bear and Planet Earth” for an overview of energy solutions past and present, according to the release.
