WESTPORT, Conn. Few things could improve upon the spirited oasis Mimi McLaughlin and Jeff Marron have created in Saugatuck Grain & Grape, Westports best boutique wine shop. Few things, except, perhaps being able to enjoy a good drink with them inside their eclectic shop, which features wines and spirits you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere under the same roof.
And now, thanks to last weeks Planning and Zoning Commission vote, you will be able to do that, too. At least, you will be able to enjoy a drink near them. The board voted to allow the couple to transform half of their retail space into a wine and cocktail bar, a plan that has been in the works for some time, according to Marron and McLaughlin.
The new wine and cocktail bar, which will draw on Marrons cocktail and spirits expertise and McLaughlins extensive knowledge of small and artisan producer wines, will be a welcome addition to the Saugatuck neighborhoods continued resurgence. And the bars proximity to the Westport train station (its right across the street) is sure to make it a hit with the commuter crowd.
More toast-worthy details are sure to come over the next few weeks.
Saugatuck Grain & Grape is located at 40 Railroad Place in Westport.
