Try New Flavors During Westport Restaurant Week

WESTPORT, Conn. – Save your appetite, Westport. It’s Restaurant Week, a time to treat yourself or the family to specially priced, three-course meals at select restaurants throughout town.

Through Friday, 18 participating restaurants are offering special prix fixed menus for lunch and dinner.

“It’s a great opportunity to try new flavors at places you haven’t been to, as well as support your favorite restaurants,” said Lisa Parrelli Gray, executive director of the Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the event. “And it gives restaurants a chance to give back to the community.”

Restaurant Week also offers diners the chance to help those in need. Each participating restaurant is collecting canned/non-perishable food items for the “Have a meal, give a meal” food drive, Gray said. The food drive benefits the food pantry operated by Homes With Hope, a Westport nonprofit that supports the homeless.

Diners will also be encouraged to show off their creativity. The Westport Arts Center is sponsoring a “Dinner Doodle” contest in which diners will be invited to doodle on napkins. Each doodle submitted will be entered into the contest and featured in an exhibit to be showcased at a dinner party on Oct. 17, Gray said.

“We’ve all done this sort of thing,” Gray said with a laugh, referring to dinner doodling. “We thought it would be a fun way to bring the community together to celebrate fine dining.”

In addition to the food drive and contest, the Westport Country Playhouse is offering diners discounted tickets to its production of “A Raisin In The Sun,” Gray said.

Restaurants participating in Restaurant Week include: Matsu Sushi, Pane e Bene, River House Tavern, Arezzo Ristorante, Dressing Room, DaPietro's Restaurant, Terrain Garden Café, Tavern on Main, Blue Lemon, Tarantino's, Rizzuto's, Tarry Lodge, Oaxaca Kitchen, Bobby Q's, Tabouli Grill, Bistro 88, The Mumbai Times and Villa del Sol.

Diners are encouraged to make reservations sooner rather than later. For more information, visit the Westport Weston Chamber website.
