Jib Productions will present "Seasons Readings" at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Darien Library; 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Greenwich Arts Council and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Westport Woman's Club.
The group will present performances "comprised of whimsical, humorous and sentimental one-act plays and stories, read by professional entertainers," a press release said. The audience is invited to join cast members for eggnog and dessert at the conclusion of each program.
Actors scheduled to perform in the shows include Broadway veteran Susan Terry as well as Brian J. Carter of Westport and Katie Sparer of Stratford.
Jib Artistic Director Carole Schweid selected plays she said will amuse and stir those in attendance, including "Land of the Sweets" from Frederick Stroppel.
"Frederick Stroppel is one of our favorite playwrights and this show features one his most humorous and outlandish characters,” said Schweid in a release. “Audiences will be treated to a very funny play about Madame Irina, who intimidates her young charges into a production of 'The Nutcracker.'”
Schweid also pointed to "Whistling Dick's Christmas Stocking," a short story by O. Henry.
“The audience will get to meet one of the author’s most endearing characters, a hobo from New Orleans, who is living life as free as a bird,” said Schweid. “Whistling Dick is a cross between Charles Dickens and Damon Runyon. This story is perfect for a Christmas read. It shows how one, small act of kindness can lead to much greater things.”
"Rather Late for Christmas" by Mary Ellen Chase and holiday musings by Pulitzer Prize-winner Anna Quindlen, also will be performed.
Tickets for "Seasons Readings" are $30 per person. For information, visit the group's website, call the box office at 203-293-8831 or email info@playwithyourfood.org.
