Members get all the privileges of boat ownership without the hassle, said Capt. John Davis, the club's manager.
"The annual fees are a fraction of what owning a boat would cost when you consider the maintenance, mooring, and fuel," he said.
"A new boat costs three times as much when you consider all the costs. Boats in salt water need engine work and replacements," he added
Members are often families, young couples and people new to the area.
"I had a young couple come in that wanted to buy a boat. They found out boating takes up a lot of time so they became members instead."
Davis provides boating and safety instruction to members, often children and teens whose families are into boating, he said.
"Piloting a boat builds confidence in anyone, especially young people. You learn situational awareness. I teach kids how to run power boats. Boaters are confident people. You have to have a Plan A. And if Plan A doesn't work out, you have a Plan B."
To join Carefree Boating you need a certificate of boating after taking an eight-hour course and fees are based on membership levels.
Members can reserve boats at marinas in Bridgeport, Stamford, and Westport through an online portal.
The company has 60 locations around the country.
