On May 2, the restaurant launches Gallery @ Pearl, a celebration of Westport’s rich heritage of artists and creativity.
The Gallery kicks off with an 5 p.m. opening reception featuring Janet Samuels, a local photographer who describes herself as “drawn to life with all its beauty, joy and imperfections.”
While in college pursuing a business major, Samuels found herself drawn to all things visual and became interested in photography.
“I borrowed cameras until I landed a job in the well-known Strawberries Record Stores, a coveted place to work in the 1970s, especially if you loved rock and roll,” she said.
A few months later she was able to buy her first 35mm camera. While working at Strawberries and having attended some amazing rock performances, she married her love for music and photography.
“My early black & white photos of Blondie and Rod Stewart are some of my favorites,” she said.
After a near 20-year hiatus, Samuels returns now preferring to shoot on the streets and on the go. She also has a penchant for black and white photography, but cannot resist a moment that is colorful and edgy.
The Gallery @ Pearl will be curated by Cathy Colgan, who has spent the past decade organizing assorted cultural and art-related events in the downtown Westport area.
Pearl is located at Longshore Club Park, 260 Compo Road South.
