Ospreys are returning in growing numbers to the Connecticut shoreline thanks to a ban on the pesticide DDT and good habitats made even more attractive with helpful platforms for the birds to build their massive nests.
Aspetuck Land Trust stewardship staff members recently installed new osprey platforms at two of the land trust’s Westport preserves.
The trust’s Taylortown Salt Marsh preserve is located at Wilton Road and Kings Highway North. The Allen Salt Marsh Preserve is off Grove Point Road.
The Aspetuck Land Trust is a local nonprofit land conservation organization founded in 1966 to preserve open space in the towns of Westport, Weston, Fairfield and Easton.
ALT nature preserves provide passive recreation and educational opportunities for people to learn about and enjoy nature, while preserving the flora and fauna and rural characteristics of local communities.
ALT maintains 45 trailed nature preserves and other conservation-only properties spanning 1,800 acres. www.aspetucklandtrust.org
