EASTON, Conn. Things dont get much more local than the annual Easton Farm Tour. Organized by Citizens for Easton, the self-guided farm tour is a celebration of local bounty.
This free farm tour begins at 10 a.m. on Aug. 11 and runs through 3 p.m. The kick-off is at the Easton Firehouse Green, located at One Center Road in Easton. There, youll get your road map, event passes and other treats and surprises from farmers and other organizations.
This tour is truly a community event in celebration of farming in Easton past, present, and future. said Jean Stetz Puchalski, co-chair of the Easton Farm Tour. Farmers have been a part of Easton's character and culture for nearly 300 years and our tour celebrates this unique heritage, supports local farming and teaches our next generation about the importance and meaning of local agriculture."
Speaking of the next generation, the kids will love the pony rides, petting zoo and pick your own fruits and vegetables. And the whole family will enjoy the fresh, local food tastings. Participating farms and organizations include: Aspetuck Valley Apple Barn, Buttonwood Farm, Daves Honey, Gilberties Herb Gardens, Historic Bradley Hubbell House Barn and Gardens, J&L Orchids, Lion Hill Farm, Sherwood Farm, Silvermans Farm and Sport Hill Farm.
The Easton Firehouse Green will serve as the tours home base, with lots of food and fun happening on the green. Skinny Pines PizzaEastons own gourmet pizza purveyorwill be on the green with the mobile wood-fired pizza oven. And Dan Tresslers String Fingers band will keep you grooving.
"CFE launched this tour four years ago to celebrate a remarkable part of our town heritage, but it also serves our local farmers, said event co-chair and Westport Farmers Market Director Lori Cochran Dougall. We have long envisioned this as both a celebration and educational event, primarily with a focus on how sustainable farming very much remains a vital part of our heritage as well as a core part of our food source. Our local farmers provide the food on our tables, or the trees we use to celebrate holidays and many other services. Our tour celebrates this rich heritage. Please meet us at the green, have lunch, listen to music and get back to your roots.
