Pogue, whose new book is called “Pogue’s Basics: Money: Essential Tips and Shortcuts (That No One Bothers to Tell You) About Beating the System,” is to speak in the library’s McManus Room at 2 p.m., according to the statement, which said the event is open to the public at no cost.
Pogue’s book includes 200 “simple tips and tricks” that aim to make managing finances easier, according to the statement, which said that Pogue has 1.5 million Twitter followers, has given four TED talks and is founder of Yahoo Tech – a consumer tech website for “non-technicians.”
The author will provide some tips aimed at spotting costly scams and others aimed at getting better deals on airline tickets, hotel rooms, car sales and taxes, according to the statement.
“His expertise in consumer advocacy will inform you of the best products and websites to use to save yourself money,” the library’s statement said.
Pogue writes a monthly column for Scientific American and has written a tech column for The New York Times for the past 13 years, according to the library. He hosts “NOVA” on PBS and often appears on “CBS Sunday Morning”.
According to the library, Pogue has authored 80 books, including “Pogue’s Basics: Life” and “Pogue’s Basics: Tech”.
