In the trailer for "Martha," an upcoming Netflix film to be released on Wednesday, Oct. 30, Stewart confirms that she cheated on her first husband, Andy Stewart, during their 25-year marriage.
Immediately after, Stewart, age 83, drops another bombshell — her ex-husband never found out.
"Young women, listen to my advice: If you’re married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a (expletive deleted)" Stewart says in the trailer, adding, "Get out of that marriage."
An interviewer then asks Stewart about her affair, to which the icon replies, "Yeah, but I don’t think Andy ever knew about that."
The two married in 1961. Years later, in 1965, their only daughter Alexis was born.
The couple eventually separated in 1987 and divorced in 1990 just as Martha Stewart from was building her media empire, though:
"Getting divorced was a terrible thing for me, because we were the first to divorce in my family...And that we haven’t spoken since the divorce is even more painful. But I’m very strong, and I’m very motivated to get on with life," Stewart told People in a 2020 interview.
In the trailer for "Martha," Stewart also addresses traits that led to her success:
"I'm strict and I'm demanding and I'm all those good things that make a successful person...I was on the top of the world," she says.
Stewart also doesn't hold back when mentioning her stock trading trial that led to her five-month sentence in a minimum-security federal prison in West Virginia after she was caught lying to investigators about selling her shares of the biopharmaceutical company ImClone Systems.
"I was a trophy for these idiots...those prosecutors should have been put in a Cuisinart and turned on high," she says.
Stewart's blistering words were not only reserved for the documentary, as she has already expressed her displeasure with the production. During the 2024 Retail Influencer CEO Forum, she called the film "lazy," and "not the story that makes me, me," according to OK Magazine.
She also said the film's director, R.J. Cutler, "refused to change anything" even though she had a collaboration contract with the documentary, according to the outlet.
Stewart rose to fame as a globally known businesswoman and television personality and is known for her media empire which includes cookbooks, her magazine, "Martha Stewart Living," and numerous television shows, including "Martha Gardens," "Martha Cooks," and "Martha Holidays."
She is a resident of the Northern Westchester hamlet of Katonah. She has also previously had homes in Westport, Connecticut, and on Long Island, in East Hampton.
