EASTON, Conn. - Hey, Easton, looking for fun activities to do with the kids this weekend? Heres a collection of some of the many events happening in and around Easton in the next few days:
Friday, Jan. 27
- 4 p.m.: If your kids are fans of the book and movie series Diary of a Wimpy Kid, drop them off at Fairfield Woods Branch Library for this weeks Cabin Fever at Woods program. The library will have an hour of activities inspired by the series, including making mini-pretzel log cabins, a snow clothes relay race, mad libs and more. Register for this program at the library's website, or for more information call 203-255-7308.
- 6 p.m.: Join your friends at the Easton Community Center for a Zumba Party Night. Dance to the high energy Latin music while you sweat off the unwanted pounds. There will be healthy snacks provided and feel free to bring a water bottle or any beverage of your choosing to enjoy during the Zumba party. Pre-registration encouraged. Saturday, Jan. 28
- 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Pro Impact Soccer Academy in Fairfield will host a kids soccer clinic at the Sportsplex on Mill Plain Road. The camps instructors will teach kids everything from the basics to more advanced training. The morning-long session costs $75 per child. Register at the PISA website in advance.
- 9:30 a.m.: Parents, do you have any younger teens who want to become babysitters? Enroll them now in the American Red Cross Babysitting Course at the Easton Community Center. The purpose of this course is to provide individuals with information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for young children. This training will help participants develop skills in five critical areas: leadership, safety, safe play, basic care, first aid, and professionalism. The program is Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Easton Community Center, 364 Sport Hill Road. For more information please call 203-459-9700. The cost of the program is $90 for members and $100 for nonmembers.
- 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Open your childs eyes to a whole new way to create art, as pop artist Michael Albert presents his recycled cereal box collage workshop at the Easton Public Library. Albert will make a short presentation about his art and then participants will create their own pop art out of consumer packaging, old photographs and discarded cardboard and other raw materials - just like Albert does. This program will consist of two separate sessions, each free and two hours long. The first session is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for children in kindergarten through 4th grade. The second session will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for children in 5th through 12th grade and adults. A collection of Alberts collages will be on exhibit in the library through Feb. 14. Sunday, Jan. 29
- 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Come check out the Easton Arts Council Annual Members Art Show at the Easton Public Library, which runs until Feb. 25. The exhibit includes 138 works by 74 artists, photographers, and sculptors from 22 Connecticut towns. The hours of the art show are from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Many of the award-winning artists in the show have exhibited nationally; several have exhibited internationally. All of the works are available for purchase,. - 1 p.m.: The Westport Playhouse will present The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales. The program is produced by the Griffin Theatre Company and based on Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith's book. Kids will recognize familiar fairytale characters, including Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin and Goldilocks. Recommended for ages 4-10. Tickets are $18 and available through the playhouse website.
