Dirnberger will be giving an update on what is going on with drones — other than that pesky neighbor kid who keeps flying his contraption near your windows. Coffee and donuts start at 9:45 a.m. and Dirnberger’s talk begins at 10:30 a.m.
Dirnberger saw his first drone-like weapon in 1968 as an infantry captain flying helicopters with the 1st Cavalry Division in South Vietnam. While patrolling the coast of North Vietnam, the U.S. navy destroyer USS Mansfield, with Dirnberger aboard, deployed a modified unmanned aerial submarine detector to bomb enemy installations. Now, drones may be dropping pizzas at your doorstep.
Foster Hirsch, the originally scheduled speaker, ran into last-minute faculty meeting problems and will be unable to speak, so Dirnberger has volunteered to pinch hit
The meeting will take place at the Unitarian Church in Westport at 10 Lyons Plains Road. Those interested in attending the presentation and learning more about the Y's Men should contact Tom Douglas at tdoug92048@optonline.net. You can also access the website at ysmenwestportweston.org.
