The six minute film by Raw Media Network, a Weston production company, will be shown at the Unitarian Church on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
It was filmed in Weston and Fairfield in early January where more than 60 kids from Fairfield County, including 15 from Weston, commented about the gun violence in Newtown and what should be done about it.
Johnny Boston, the director who lives in Weston, said, “Making the film was tricky because a few parents were very sensitive about us not going into detail about what happened in Newtown. So we tried to be cognizant about not putting words in their mouth.”
Some of the comments directly concerned the Newtown shootings. “School is the one place I thought no one could hurt you,” one kid said.
Another concerned gun control. “It’s dumb people can buy guns and do whatever they want. If they fall into the wrong hands they could do really bad stuff to innocent people,” another kid commented.
Faizaan Siddiqui, 14, a Weston High School student who was one of the older kids in the film, said making the film was a positive experience. "I was able to see how everyone felt about the shootings and how they can prevent it. I was happy to spread this message to the people of Connecticut and my opinion made a difference."
The film concludes with comments in support of March for Change, the Feb. 14 event in Hartford to support gun-control legislation.
The film will be screened at Unitarian Church, 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport ahead of “Living for 32,” a documentary about the Virginia Tech shootings
