Redding's Mark Twain Library Hosts Fred Newman Of 'Prairie Home Companion'

REDDING, Conn. -- Redding's Mark Twain Library will host Fred Newman from "Prairie Home Companion" this weekend.

The show, which is part of the Hermes Art Series, is set to start at 3 p.m. March 2 at the Mark Twain Library at 439 Redding Road in Redding.

Newman, who creates sounds and voices for Garrison Keillor's weekly radio show "Prairie Home Companion," will be "sounding off and telling tales" at the library, a press release said. His show, which he is calling "Ah-oo-gah!," will include stories, music and audience interaction.

Newman wrote "MouthSounds," an award-winning multiple-media book and was a writer and puppeteer for Jim Henson in addition to hosting several series for Nickelodeon and Disney. He has created voices and characters for stage and television, including "Saturday Night Live" and "Men in Black."

The Mark Twain Library event is suitable for students in middle school and up. Refreshments will be served and admission is free, though reservations are requested. To sign up, visit the Mark Twain Library website or call 203-938-2545.
