Local Author To Lecture On Life In Weston During World War II

WESTON, CONN. -- The Weston Historical Society continues its lecture series as part of its current exhibit: Memories of World War II – Celebrating Weston’s Contributions to World War II, on Wednesday, March 8.

The lecture by local author and journalist Karl E. Meyer will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Weston Public Library. Meyer will present a program on “Daily Life on the Weston Front – Weston in the Years of World War II."

Meyer recalls his adolescent years when his parents, in 1941and made their home in an old farmhouse on Eleven O’clock Road in Weston. During World War II Meyer and his family experienced both the stresses and rewards of community life during World War II, while living in a very different and culturally complex Weston.

Meyer is an author and journalist who has lived and worked in Weston for six decades. Formerly a foreign correspondent and editorial writer at The Washington Post and The New York Times, he has written 14 books on foreign affairs, history and the fine arts. Four were co-authored with his wife, Shareen Brysac. Born in Wisconsin, Meyer was schooled in Weston and Manhattan. He earned his BA at the University of Wisconsin, and his Ph.D. in politics at Princeton.

Memories of World War II commemorates the 75th anniversary of the involvement of the United States in World War II with an emphasis on the stories of the 155 men and women of Weston who served in World War II. Over 70 individuals have contributed stories, memorabilia, photographs, armaments and medals for the exhibit. 

The Weston Historical Society’s Memories of World War II exhibit is open Sundays from 1-4 p.m. through March 26 at the Coley Homestead at 104 Weston Road, or by appointment.
