Kids Invited To Weston Fire Department Open House

WESTON, Conn. -- Bring your kids to the Weston Volunteer Fire Department’s Open House on Saturday and they’ll learn a lot about fighting fires.

The annual event, to be held at department headquarters on Norfield Road from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will give kids the opportunity to use a real fire hose to put out a fake fire. They’ll also get the chance to use the department’s thermal-imaging camera to see things under smoke conditions. A member of the department will also demonstrate the Jaws of Life hydraulic extrication tool, which is used to cut apart a car involved in an accident.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore department fire trucks and a safety trailer that will demonstrate fire hazards in a house.

The first 75 kids to arrive will receive a free T-shirt and there will be a variety of handouts, including balloons, stickers, light-up pins and plastic fire helmets.

Members of the department will be on hand to welcome guests and to describe their roles in fighting fires in Weston.
