REDDING, Conn. Have you ever taken a hay ride through a country pasture in a cart drawn by a team of Percheron draft horses? Thats one of the activities planned Saturday at New Pond Farms Annual Harvest Festival.
New Pond Farm, the 102-acre West Redding working spread and environmental education center, celebrates the fall harvest with an event that should be fun for the entire family.
It takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the hay rides are scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. A Percheron with a colt will also take part in a harnessing demonstration.
Live music will be performed by the Germantown Ancients Fife and Drum Corps and Lisa Furman, who sings traditional music.
There will be a variety of historical demonstrations, including antique tools, rope making, tinsmithing and open hearth cooking.
Festival visitors will be able to participate in crafts events, from pumpkin decorating to making beeswax candles and harvest wreaths.
Girl scouts will serve hot dogs, hamburgers and other foods.
Admission is $5 per person for everyone over 3 with a $20 maximum for families.
New Pond Farm is located at 101 Marchant Road at the corner of Umpawaug Road.
Some 400 to 500 visitors are expected. Rain date is Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
