Easton Celebrates Its Heritage With A Farm Tour

EASTON, Conn. – Farming is virtually a year-round event in Easton, from summer produce to winter Christmas trees, and it will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 11, with the Easton Farm Tour.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting at the Firehouse green at 1 Center Road, where visitors will be given maps listing activities taking place at participating farms. Visitors will enjoy everything from food tastings to antique farm tool demonstrations, pony rides, a petting zoo and pick-your-own fruits and vegetables.

Activities will also take place on the Firehouse green, with live music performed by Dan Tressler’s String Fingers Band, as the Easton Community Center provides old-time fun and games. Skinny Pines will be on the green offering pizza from its wood-fired oven.

The fourth annual tour, sponsored by Citizens for Easton, “is a community event in celebration of farming in Easton,” said Jean Stetz Puchalski, co-chair. “Farmers have been a part of Easton's character and culture for nearly three hundred years and our tour supports local farming and teaches our next generation about the importance and meaning of local agriculture."

Lori Cochran Dougal, who also co-chairs the tour, said, “Our farmers provide the food on our tables, the trees we use to celebrate the holidays and many other services. Our town celebrates this rich heritage.”

Aspetuck Valley Apple Barn, Buttonwood Farm, Silverman’s Farm and other Easton farms will participate with community groups, including Easton Garden Club, the Easton Agricultural Commission and the Aspetuck Land Trust.
