Weston's Farmers' Market Kicks Off Season

WESTON, Conn. – The Weston Farmers’ Market got off to a vibrant start Saturday morning at the Weston Historical Society. The market, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday through Sept. 29, offered an array of vendors who sold everything from farm-fresh organic produce to hand soaps and cookie dough.

Gloria Nash, from Black Rock and Aspetuck Corner, a farm collective affiliated with the Easton Apple Barn, sold produce from farms in several towns, including Westport and Shelton. Fresh strawberries, peas, broccoli and lettuce were on display, along with honey from a Connecticut apiary.

Corey Tolkin and her mother, Julie Tolkin, from Whipped Up in Weston, sold cookie dough bites in six flavors available in packs of 10 or single packs.

Catherine Romer, from Wilton’s Nod Hill Soap, sold handmade soaps and skin care products. She said it was her first time at the Weston Farmers’ Market and she will attend every Saturday.

While shoppers checked out the farm-fresh products, a group of kids practiced sand art at a picnic table, filling glass canisters with different colors of sand.

“It’s a big hit with kids. They’re fascinated by it,” said Heather Frimmer of Weston, whose sons Jonah, 6, and Ari, 3, filled canisters with yellow, purple and red sand.

Proceeds from vendor rental fees and a lemonade stand will be donated to local charities, including Weston Social Services, Weston Senior Services and the Weston Historical Society.
