Intermix Adding More Fashion to Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Fashionistas in and around Westport, brace yourselves: Intermix is bringing Jimmy Choo, Yves Saint Laurent, Herve Leger, Victoria Beckham and other top labels to town this fall.

Intermix, a New York City-based fashion boutique for women, is opening at 51 Main St. in Westport, said David Waldman, president of David Adam Realty. The store will occupy the former home of Janie and Jack, a children's clothing store that closed last month.

“Overall, we’ve seen some great activity on the street,” Waldman said of Main Street. “A lot of great retailers have and continue to move in.”

The multibrand retailer, which carries more than 200 designers, has 26 boutiques throughout the United States and Canada, according to its website. The Westport location will be the second one in the state, with the first located on Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich.

The store is advertised to open in the fall, but Waldman said it may be open in as soon as two months.

Men shouldn’t feel left out, though. Allen Edmonds, a Wisconsin-based retailer that specializes in upscale men’s shoes, apparel and accessories, is also setting up shop on Main Street.

The store will be located between Nike and Theory and is targeted to open “shortly after Thanksgiving,” said a spokesman for Malkin Properties, the property owners. This would be the second Allen Edmonds store opening in the state. The first is in Stamford.

These two retailers are among a slate of companys that have flocked to downtown Westport over the past year. In addition to Theory and Nike, which opened last summer, downtown has seen the arrival of Urban Outfitters, Calypso St. Barth, Mixology, Spruce and more.

“I’m so happy to hear Intermix is opening,” said Victoria Schallert, co-owner of the Brownstone, an independent Main Street merchant. “It creates a marketplace and attracts new shoppers. Anything that brings people here is a benefit to us all.”
