Norwalk Fugitive Wanted for Sex Crimes Against Multiple Children Captured in Georgia: Cops
A Fairfield County man wanted for allegedly having inappropriate contact with multiple juveniles was arrested in Georgia after an intense manhunt led by local and federal authorities, police said.
Moises Ruiz, 37, of Norwalk, was tracked to Gwinnett County, Georgia, where he was taken into custody on Jan. 15 by US Marshals, according to the Norwalk Police Department.
Detectives from Norwalk’s special victims unit traveled to Georgia on Tuesday, Jan. 28, to extradite Ruiz back to Connecticut.

Engine Stall Risk Sparks Recall For 294K+ Honda, Acura Vehicles
Nearly 295,000 Honda and Acura vehicles are being recalled due to a software issue that could cause engines to lose power or stall, increasing crash risks, officials said.
Honda, which also owns Acura, announced the recall in a news release on Wednesday, Jan. 29. The 294,612 recalled vehicles include select 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type S, 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type S, and 2023-2025 Honda Pilot models.

A beloved former teacher, librarian, and cancer survivor who was a devoted mother has died at 33, leaving behind her husband and young daughter. Now, friends are rallying to support her grieving family.
Erica Leigh Alterio, of Newtown, died on Jan. 14 after a brief illness. She would have turned 34 on Feb. 7.
A graduate of Central Connecticut State University and Fairfield University, Erica worked as a librarian at the Western Connecticut Academy of International Studies in Danbury, her obituary said. She also spent several years as a computer teacher at St. Mark School in Stratford.

Man Steals $5,600 In Books Stolen From CT Library: Cops
A Middletown man has been charged in connection with the theft of books valued at approximately $5,600 from the Wethersfield Public Library, police said.
Levi Preston, 50, was identified as the suspect after a thorough investigation involving the Wethersfield and West Hartford Police Departments. The theft was first reported by the library director on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, according to the Wethersfield Police Department.
An arrest warrant was issued and approved by New Britain Superior Court. Preston was taken into custody on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2025, police said.
