'Can't Happen Again': Lying About Candidate Background Would Be Perjury Under NY Bill
New York lawmakers are hoping to prevent a repeat of disgraced former Congressman George Santos’ meteoric rise and fall after he lied about much of his background to get elected. A new bill announced Friday, Dec. 8 would require candidates to make sworn statements under penalty of perjury about parts of their background. Democrats have nominated former Rep. Tom Suozzi as their candidate for New York’s special election to fill George Santos’ vacant House seat. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker will not seek a third term in office in 2022, according to an announcement made by his administration. Baker, age 65, a moderate Republican who first took office in January 2015, announced on Wednesday, Dec. 1 that he and Lt. Gov. Former Congressional Candidate Found Dead
A 41-year-old lifelong New Yorker died in an apparent suicide two weeks after he dropped out of his race for a United States House of Representatives seat in the Hudson Valley. Afghanistan war veteran Kyle Van De Water, age 41, was found dead in Dutchess County on Tuesday, Sept. 7, in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery by City of Poughkeepsie police.
