Update - Shooting In Region: Infant Dies Shortly After Birth, Mom In Critical Condition This story has been updated. An infant died shortly after being delivered following a Hampden County shooting just before 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4 in in Holyoke at the intersection of Maple and Sargeant Streets. A pregnant woman was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Man Behind Murder-Suicide, Shooting 2 Kids In Springfield Home ID'd By Police Police have identified the man they say killed a grandmother and shot two of her grandchildren in a Springfield home Monday, Aug. 14, before he turned the gun on himself.  Victor Nieves, 34, of Springfield, is believed to have killed Kim Fairbanks, 52, of Springfield, at 174 Berkshire Ave. just after 2:30 p.m., the Hampden District Attorney's Office said. Police responded to reports of a possibly armed man acting aggressively to others at the MGM Casino around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni reports. 2 Found Dead In Home In Region A man and a woman were found dead inside a Western Massachusetts home after a call from a relative. The two were found in Springfield around 10:15 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25 on Maynard Street. According to Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police,  officers responded to a home on Maynard Street for immediate assistance after a relative found the man and woman dead inside the home from apparent gunshot wounds. The Springfield Police Homicide Unit under the direction of Capt. Trent Duda is investigating, Walsh said. The names and ages of the two people have not yet been released. …

One Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash In Region An investigation is underway after a driver was killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash in Western Massachusetts.  Police responded to the crash in Hampden County, at around  3:40 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22, in the city of Agawam. ID Released For Fatal Shooting Victim In Region The victim of a fatal shooting in Western Massachusetts has been identified. Hampden County resident Kelvin Cruz-Lopez, age 23, of Chicopee, was killed around 10:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 3 during a shooting on East Street, said the Hampden County District Attorney's Office. Driver Dies After Rollover Crash In Region A woman has died following a rollover car crash in the region. The 31-year-old woman, who has not been identified, died following the Western Massachusetts crash in West Springfield, on Thursday, Sept. 23. Hampden District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Jim Leydon, said the crash took place on Memorial Avenue when the driver of an SUV struck another vehicle. After hitting the vehicle, the woman lost control of the SUV and hit a guiderail, causing it to roll over and catch fire, he said. Police said speeding is being considered as a factor in the crash.
