A seal pup found wandering on a New Haven street has died, unable to recover from illness and malnutrition. The gray seal nicknamed "Chappy" has died, Mystic Aquarium said in an Instagram post on Monday, Mar. 3. The male pup was brought to the aquarium's Animal Rescue Clinic on Sunday, Feb. 16 after New Haven police found him stranded near the intersection of Chapel and East streets. The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is proving that it doesn’t discriminate amongst its victims, whether humans or the Kings of the Jungle. Seven more big cats have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Bronx Zoo, bringing the total to eight animals at the zoo since the pandemic hit New York 58 days ago. The Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs the zoo, said that four tigers and three African lions began showing symptoms of the virus earlier this month, and have tested positive for COVID-19. Bridgeport Veterinarian Faces Animal Cruelty Charge
A veterinarian in Fairfield County is facing charges of animal abuse and theft after allegedly performing an unnecessary procedure on a dog and leaving it without food for several days, police said. Derby resident Amr Wasfi, who worked and established the Black Rock Animal Hospital in Bridgeport, has been charged with animal cruelty and third-degree larceny following a pair of complaints that police received.
