A 50-year-old woman has admitted to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Connecticut nonprofit at which she served as executive director, federal officials said. A beloved mother, grandmother, and wife who dedicated her life to doing everything she could for her patients as a visiting nurse is being remembered following her murder in a Connecticut residence. Joyce Grayson, age 63, died on Saturday, Oct. 28 after going missing while she was performing her duties as a visiting nurse at a residence in the Windham County municipality of Willimantic. Authorities shared the results of tobacco compliance inspections at a group of Fairfield County businesses. Police conducted unannounced compliance inspections at New Canaan businesses that sell tobacco products and/or electronic cigarettes on Wednesday, Aug. 10, according to the New Canaan Police Department. Police Warn Of Opioid Use After Eight Overdoses With Five Deaths In Past Week In Norwalk
With multiple overdoses in the past week that have resulted in five deaths, Norwalk Police are reminding the public about the dangers of opioid abuse. According to Norwalk Police, since Wednesday, August 28, the department responded to eight overdose emergencies, including the five fatalities, said Norwalk Police Lt. Terrence Blake. Bridgeport Woman Sentenced For ID Theft, Health Care Fraud
A woman from Fairfield County is heading to prison after admitting to her role in stealing identifying information of more than 150 Medicaid patients to steal more than a million dollars. Bridgeport resident Nikkita Chesney, 46, was sentenced in Bridgeport district court to seven months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for her role in a Medicaid fraud scheme. Chesney pleaded guilty in October last year to one count of health care fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. She must also pay restitution of $1,369,654.57. Two Monroe businesses were cited for selling tobacco products to minors during a compliance check by police and state officials. The check, by the Monroe Police Department and the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, checked 16 establishments on Monday, May 6, in an effort enforce state law regarding the sale of tobacco products to youth under the age of eighteen, said Lt. CT To Get $10M Federal Grant For Opioid Crisis, Mental Health Disorders
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced on Monday, Aug. 13 that Connecticut is receiving a $10 million federal grant that will be used to increase access to care for individuals with substance use, mental health and co-occurring disorders. Funding will also be used to address the opioid crisis in the state by increasing access to medication-assisted treatment.
