Steelers Pick Stratford Native Matakevich In Final Round Of NFL Draft

STRATFORD, Conn. -- A Stratford native has become the first football player in Trumbull's St. Joseph High School's history to be drafted by an NFL franchise, according to gametimect.com.

Tyler Matakevich, a linebacker from Temple University and a Stratford native who played for St. Joseph High School of Trumbull, was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the final round of the 2016 draft.

Tyler Matakevich, an All-American linebacker at Temple University and winner of the Chuck Bednarik and Bronko Nagurski awards, was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 246th pick in the final round of the 2016 draft, according to gametimect.com.

Matakevich told gametimect.com that he was beginning to get discouraged and was talking about free agency with other teams when he received a telephone call from Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin and learned of his good fortune.
