STRATFORD, Conn. -- A man suspected of stealing an M4 rifle and other gear from a car in Milford two weeks ago was arrested Tuesday in Stratford, according to police.

Justin Parsell, 26, was charged with first-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, theft of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, possession of an assault rifle, possession of a high capacity magazine and possession of a silencer. He is being held on a $150,000 bond.

The arrest stems from the reported theft that took place on Jan. 4 at a residence on Boothbay Street in Milford. According to Milford Police, someone broke into a vehicle and stole an M4 rifle, a level three ballistic vest and a pair of night vision goggles. The theft is believed to have occurred between 4:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m.

The Connecticut Post reported that the car and gear belonged to a Bridgeport police officer , who could face disciplinary action for leaving the car door unlocked.

Police launched an investigation and were able to recover all the items and secure a warrant for Parsell. Milford Police believed that Parsell may have cut his hair.

On Tuesday at around 2:15 p.m. Milford Police received a tip that Parsell might be in Stratford in the area of Stop & Shop near the Devon area of Milford. Police responded and located Parsell and attempted to take him into custody, but he began running from the officers, according to police.

After a brief foot chase, Parsell was taken into custody, police said.
