One of the two crashes occurred on I-91 southbound on Friday. The crash occurred near exit 24 in Rocky Hill and left two people dead. The other crash occurred on Saturday on the Wilbur Cross Parkway/Route 15 south in Orange and resulted in the death of a 44-year-old Stratford man.

A 23-year-old man was also killed in a motorcycle crash in Danbury over the holiday weekend, though that accident was not investigated by state police.
Throughout the three-day weekend, state troopers patrolled highways and state roads throughout Connecticut, focusing on drunken driving, aggressive drivers, seat belt violations, distracted driving and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and DUI patrols were in place across the state.
Between Friday and Monday, state police handed out 719 speeding tickets and 668 seat belt violation tickets. In total, they handed out 2,658 tickets. They also arrested 31 people for driving under the influence.
There were a total of 302 accidents on state roads this weekend, 48 of which included injuries.
There were much fewer infractions and accidents on state roads this year than the previous year. In 2016, state police handed out 829 tickets for speeding, 791 tickets for seat belt violations, and 3,359 tickets for other moving violations. There were a total of 47 DUI arrests, 350 crashes, including 64 with injuries, and one crash that resulted in three fatalities.
