The street value of this amount of heroin is estimated to be more than $1 million, State Police said.
State troopers from Troop G in Bridgeport along with the Trumbull Police Department and a Trumbull Police K9 team worked together on the bust.
At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, troopers were conducting motor vehicle enforcement on the northbound Merritt when they saw a Toyota Camry commit a moving violation and stopped it, state police said.
While troopers were speaking with the driver, they were alerted to possible narcotics in the vehicle and initiated an investigation, state police said.
A Trumbull Police Department K9 team responded and assisted troopers in locating 11 packages of suspected heroin within the vehicle, state police said.
The driver, Jose Adorno, was taken into custody and transported to Troop G, where he was charged with possession of over 1 kilogram of heroin and possession of over 1 kilogram of heroin with intent to sell. He was held on $1 million bond pending a May 18 appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
Troopers seized about 12.65 kilograms, or about 28 pounds, of heroin and transported it to Troop G, where it was held as evidence.
