STRATFORD, Conn. — A 29-year-old Stratford man who busted with 190 bags of heroin as he fled from a Milford hotel room last week is now facing federal charges, prosecutors said.

Anthony Lee Parowski was charged by a federal criminal complaint with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin, said Deirdre M. Daly, U.S. attorney for Connecticut.

Parowski was arrested on federal charges Tuesday and appeared Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah A. L. Merriam in New Haven, when he was ordered detained. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

In April, police conducted two undercover purchases of heroin from Parowski, the second time in a Milford motel room that he had rented.

On April 20, investigators approached Parowski as he left the motel carrying a cardboard box. He dropped the box and ran, discarding items as he fled, police said.

He was apprehended by federal Drug Enforcement Agency officials and the Milford Police Department Tactical Unit after a brief pursuit.

A search of Parowski, the cardboard box and the area of the chase turned up 190 bags of heroin, 66 grams of additional heroin, and items used to process and package heroin for street sale. The drugs had a street value of $15,000 to $20,000, police said.

A subsequent search of his Stratford home revealed $32,210 in cash.

Milford police K9 officer Cedar, a trained narcotics detection dog, recovered the drugs that Parowski discarded, police said. K9 Cedar located 190 bags of packaged heroin and one larger bag containing over 70 grams of heroin, police said.

Parowski was charged with the sale of narcotics and held in state custody on $100,000 bond.

In March, the DEA’s Bridgeport High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and Milford Police Department received tips that Parowski was distributing heroin.
