"They didn't say it but I made it through group rounds!!!," Sherrod said via Twitter @Chyy_Sherrod. The episode aired Thursday night on Fox and can be rewatched here.
Sherrod, a Bridgeport native, is looking to win the popular reality singing competition, which is in its 15th and final season. She made it through auditions in Atlanta last summer by singing “One Last Time’’ by Arianna Grande.
In an interview with Fox 61 in Hartford, Sherrod said that when she disappeared from Stratford High School in November, she told people she was going on a mission trip to Africa. But the secret was out when she sprang up on "Idol."
"I love to sing in harmony. I grew up with three siblings and we also sing together a lot so that was great for me to have something like that to hold on to [during Hollywood week]," Sherrod told Fox. "I know my first audition, I was very funny and I was very laid back but I think in Hollywood week, you will definitely see me command the stage and be more open."
She is not the only star in the family. Her brother, Brandon, plays basketball at Yale and toured the world with the Whiffenpoofs, the school's prestigious a Capella group, Fox said.
"American Idol" is broadcast at 8 p.m. Thursdays on Fox.
