Stratford Community Farm To Be Renamed In Honor Of Rep. Terry Backer

STRATFORD, Conn. -- A Stratford community farm, where residents grow fruits and vegetables and which became a success because of the efforts of the late state Rep. Terry Backer, will now be named in his honor, according to the Stratford Star.

State Rep. Terry Backer, also known as the Soundkeeper, died last month at the age of 61. The Stratford Community Farm will become the Terry Backer Community Farm, in honor of Backer who represented the 121st House District in Hartford.

Backer, who died Dec. 14 after a long battle with cancer, served for more than 20 years as state representative of the 121st District and worked as the Soundkeeper, known for his love of Long Island Sound and as a defender of the environment, said the Stratford Star.

The Stratford Town Council voted for the farm, located off Connors Lane, to become the Terry Backer Farm, the Star said. More than 30 residents and community groups have plots at the farm, added the Stratford Star.
