"This is very uncomfortable for us," his wife wrote on a GoFundMe campaign she set up to help raise money for his medical expenses. Chris Scofield and his business partner were in a serious car accident on March 2 when a tree fell onto the company van while they were traveling on Wilbur Cross Parkway.
Scofield is in the trauma unit at Yale New-Haven Hospital and has had one surgery. He faces possibly two more surgeries and at least two months in the hospital, then four to six weeks more at a rehabilitation facility.
He can't go home sooner because they live in a third-floor walkup apartment.
Lisa Scofield said that when she visited her husband at Yale, he told her, "This life of ours is more than you signed up for. I don't want you to have to carry this burden again."
"It broke my heart that that is where he is at right now, but I promised him that I could carry this burden 20 times over if I had to," she said on the web page.
The couple's two young sons are "confused and scared one minute, then OK the next."
The GoFundeMe has raised $6,145 to date.
