The van was stolen out of the McDowell family's driveway on Ruby Lane in Stratford sometime between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6. James McDowell told News 12 Connecticut that he reported the van stolen to Stratford Police, but that the family's life has been made more complicated by the loss of the van.
McDowell uses the van to take transport his son Jamie, who has cerebral palsy. Without the van he has had a tough time getting his son to doctor's appointments and local sporting events, which Jamie enjoys. He told News 12 that the family has had to rely on Metro Taxi, the only form of transportation that can come to their house.
The van can cost between $15,000 and $20,000 to replace, according to the GoFundMe page, which raised about $1,700 in its first three hours after being set up Tuesday.
Anyone with information on the stolen van, described as a tan 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan with Connecticut plates 485-SYL, is asked to contact the police.
