Two Stratford Library staffers just won a state award for a dusting off the stuffy misperceptions of libraries and attracting a whole new breed of patrons.

Adult Services Librarian Beth Grimes and Christopher Bacchiocchi, digital literacy associate, won the Connecticut Library Association’s Excellence in Public Library Service Award for their #MeetUp program series, a group of events that brings the mostly under-40 crowd to the library and beyond.

With events like Books on Tap at the nearby Sitting Duck Tavern, a ping pong tournament and a Pinterest Nail or Fail, the pair are finding innovative ways to meet community members where they live.

The program has created a stalwart group of repeat participants, building good cheer and fostering leadership and camaraderie among newfound friends.
