FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- With Father's Day approaching in a few days, dads in Fairfield County can be glad that they're raising their kids in the Nutmeg State, as Connecticut has been ranked as the best state for working dads.

Nearly 93 percent of dads with kids under 18 are working, but dads in some places have it better than others. A new report by the personal finance website WalletHub ranked the best and worst states for working dads. 

The report looked at data on economic opportunity across 22 indicators of friendliness toward working dads. WalletHub's analysis looked at all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and assigned them a score based on factors such as "Economic & Social Well-Being," "Work-Life Balance," "Child Care" and "Health."

Connecticut ranked the best state for dads, with a total score of 72.10. It also ranked eighth for "Economic & Social Well-Being," fourth for "Work-Life Balance," sixth for "Child Care" and fifth for "Health." The second best state overall was Minnesota, with score of 71.17, while Mississippi came in last with a score of 33.78.

Here's how Connecticut ranked on a variety of different factors:

  • Median Family Income: 15th
  • Male Life Expectancy: 2nd
  • Percentage of Kids Younger than 18 with Dad Present Living in Poverty: 3rd
  • Male Uninsured Rate: 8th
  • Average Length of Work Day for Males: 16th
  • Deaths Due to Heart Disease Among Males: 12th
  • Percentage of Physically Active Men: 10th
  • Child-Care Costs (Adjusted for Median Family Income): 27th
