“It’s bigger, a much better space,” said co-owner Vin Sansone. “There’s a higher ceiling. The location is great. We were really able to do our new footprint.”
Stratford Mayor John Harkins, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mary Dean and Economic Development Director Karen Kaiser were all on hand as the owners cut the ribbon on the new facility at 955 Ferry Blvd.
The Edge Fitness Clubs are expanding rapidly across Connecticut and the larger sites are very popular: The Stratford location has nearly 8,000 members, said Joe Moretti, vice president of operations.
“On a really busy day an Edge will get about 2,000 check-ins,” he said. “We’ll pass that today.”
The new club is nearly twice the size of the former Stratford location. It is fully equipped with Edge Cinema, boasting two levels of cardio equipment in front of a huge movie screen, a team training area, sprint lanes, tanning and massage, a children’s area with a climbing wall and basketball hoop and an expanded turf area.
The spinning area incorporates state-of-the-art integrated technology and the site offers a one-on-one personal training area that means less waiting for machines, Sansone said.
The women-only space offers women access to an updated locker room with a TV in the sauna.
The Edge offers a variety of membership options as well as small group training, zumba, yoga, boot camps and more.
“We’re very excited to have such a large space rented,” said Dean. “It’s appealing. There’s plenty of parking and it’s all state of the art.”
