Stamford Wakes Up to Fresh Snow

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford resident Gordon Knight had to grab his shovel for the first time in 2012 before heading out Saturday morning as a fresh layer of snow covered the area.

"There aren't too many people out yet," Knight said with a chuckle as he removed snow from his driveway in Springdale just after 8 a.m.

The Stamford-Darien-New Canaan area should see about 3 to 5 inches of snow before it tapers off around 3 p.m., the National Weather Service forecast said. Little to no ice is expected to accumulate.

Temperatures will be in the 20s throughout the day with wind gusts between 11 and 14 mph.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday as snow impairs driving and visability.
