Stamford Braces for Drenching Rain

When rain began falling late Monday afternoon, many people at Cove Island Park in Stamford decided to take off. But Ann and Joe Lovallo grabbed their umbrellas and gloves and made their way into the park. The Lovallos go to the Cove and walk around the path two to three times a week to keep in shape, however, the weather is usually a bit better, Ann Lovallo says.

“This is the first time we’re doing it in the rain,” she says of her walks with her husband as a gust of wind blew her umbrella inside out. The Lovallos will be stuck walking in wet weather if the forecast for the rest of the week holds true. Rain and thunderstorms are predicted for the rest of the week in Stamford, the National Weather Forecast says.

On Tuesday, the forecast calls for 2 to 3 inches of rain with a 90 percent chance of precipitation during the day and 80 percent at night. Temperatures are expected to be in the 50s and wind will range from 10 to 13 mph.

The forecast for Wednesday and Thursday look similar to Tuesday with rainfall expected to amount to about 2 inches total and thunderstorms, the forecast says. Winds will remain strong Wednesday at about 14 mph, the forecast says.

In addition to the expected rainfall and strong wind gusts, the National Weather Forecast has issued a flood watch will be in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Thursday. The sun should return on for this weekend, the weather service says.
