Afternoon Thunderstorm Strikes Stamford

After dark clouds and sprinkles of rain threatened all morning, the skies finally opened up Thursday afternoon with heavy rain and thunderstorms in Stamford.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into the evening. After 10 p.m., the clouds are expected to begin clearing for early morning Friday, the national weather service says.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain Friday afternoon, but the weekend forecast looks clear. Sun with temperatures in the upper 60s are expected for Saturday and Sunday.

A severe thunderstorm warning and hazardous weather warning had been issued for Fairfield County earlier Thursday by the National Weather Service but has been lifted. A total of 134 Connecticut Light & Power customers in Stamford were without power as of 3:45 p.m.
