Two CT Residents Test Positive For Dangerous, Rare Tick-Borne Disease Two people in Connecticut have tested positive for a rare, potentially dangerous tick-borne infection known as the Powassan virus. The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) announced that two people between the ages of 50 and 79 and are from Fairfield and New Haven counties tested positive for the virus earlier this year, representing the first two cases this year. From 2016 to 2020, a total of 10 cases were reported in Connecticut, including two last year. Of those cases, two proved to be deadly, officials said.
