New Cases Of Dangerous, Rare Tick-Borne Disease Confirmed In New England New cases of the rare and dangerous tick-borne infection known as the Powassan virus have been reported in multiple New England residents. The Rhode Island Department of Health announced that a 70-year-old Providence County resident had been diagnosed with the virus, with a second case was also confirmed in a Maine resident.
