A popular retail store has just launched its newest location in Connecticut, just in time for the summer months as temperatures start to warm and toys and recreational vehicles need some power. The new Batteries Plus opened in Fairfield on Monday, March 11 at 1555 Black Rock Turnpike, store officials said. Stop & Shop To Ban Plastic Bags At All CT Stores
In just days, Stop & Shop will become the latest retailer in Connecticut to ban the use of single-use plastic bags. After Big Y announcing that it is eliminating the use of plastic bags in its Connecticut stores, Stop & Shop said that that, beginning on Thursday, Aug. 1, stores will begin eliminating the use of plastic bags at checkout. Towns in Fairfield County that have enacted plastic bag ban ordinances are now focusing efforts on communication. Connecticut Moves Step Closer To Ban On Plastic Bags, Takeout Containers, Straws
With more and more municipalities in Connecticut banning single-use plastic bags, the state is taking measures to make those measures further reaching. The legislature’s Environment Committee voted 24-4 for a bipartisan bill that would ban the sale of single-use plastic bags, straws and take-out containers as soon as 2020. The proposed legislation would require stores use 100 percent recyclable paper bags that contain no less than 40 percent recycled materials. The bill will now go to the Senate for a vote. Plastic Bag Ban Approved By Stamford Board
Stamford joined Greenwich and Westport in approving a future ban on single-use plastic bags in that city. On Monday, Oct. 1, Stamford's Board of Representatives in voted in favor of the ban, which begins in six months. Stamford's board also approved charging 10 cents to customers who use recyclable paper bags instead of bringing their own reusable bags. The new city ordinance calls for the paper bags be 100 percent recyclable and contain at least 40 percent recycled content. Greenwich's ban went into effect on Sept. 12, also six months after its passage, as reported here by Daily Voice.
