Ceiling Collapse Closes Section Of Stamford Train Station, 1 Injured A portion of a suspended concrete ceiling over a stairway vestibule at the Stamford Train Station collapsed, sending riders scrambling to get out of the way. Stamford Firefighters Battle High-Rise Roof Fire Firefighters were able to extinguish a high-rise roof fire at a construction site in Fairfield County before the whole building was destroyed. The blaze broke out around 10:25 a.m., Friday, May 21 in Stamford at the Smyth Building Construction site on the corner of Tresser and Washington boulevards. When firefighters responded to the scene they found heavy black smoke and fire coming from the roof of the building, said Stamford Fire Department Deputy Chief John Pritchard.
