CVS To Close 900 Stores As It Adjusts To Increasing Number Of Online Shoppers
Nearly one thousand CVS stores are set to close over the next three years as the retail giant continues to pivot away from retail and leans into the company's healthcare services. On Thursday, Nov. 18, the company announced that it planned to shut down at least 300 stores annually for the next three years as it re-evaluates its business strategy. The closures will begin in spring 2022. CVS and other major pharmacies have launched the company’s COVID-19 vaccination program, which will begin at long-term health care facilities where the population is at the highest risk to contract the virus and potentially die. The company announced that its teams will begin administering the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines produced by Pfizer across 40,000 facilities in 12 states as soon as this week. New Parent Company CVS Vows To Keep Aetna Headquarters In Hartford For 10 Years
CVS Health, which is seeking state approval of its $69 billion acquisition of Aetna, is making major promises to Hartford, according to a letter from the company to the Connecticut Insurance Department. Last year, Aetna announced it was moving its headquarters to New York City, but early this year, after an incentive package fell through, CVS said it has no plans to move out of Hartford.
